A Platform for Writers that's Actually for Writers

A few things on my mind today:

You get better at what you repeatedly do

I've been sort of obsessed with this for a while. It shows up when you're building muscle, neural pathways, and also in larger environments.

What you do repeatedly is what you get better at. So sometimes when I'm doing something I'll ask myself "do I want to get into the habit of this?" or even more effective, "do I want to be the sort of person who does this?"

Newsletter vs. Novel

I've been taking this same approach into writing as we've been building writing tools into Hot Literati. Substack is great for writing newsletters. Google Docs are great for writing meeting notes. But I need to finish a novel, so I made Hot Literati an ideal workspace for working on a novel. As a member you can use those tools and the workspace now (chapter organizers, scene maps, book view, and more).

Habit Formation

This one is SO important. You do ultimately fall back to your habits, which is why it's so important to build practices out of the things you want to do and toward the person you want to be. Hot Literati Members can now set goals (daily word count, daily pages read, and books read per year).

We also have an AI tool called Amory (scoped very specifically to be a creative helper and to not do the work for you). The other day I sent the prompt asking how to write more and it sent back something so true which is that you have to lower the activation cost of what it takes to write. Instead of making this whole to do out of your writing process or building out a schedule, you really just have to start clacking at the keys or put pen to paper.
