Terms of Service
Effective date: September 2, 2026
Please read these terms carefully before using Hot Literati. They govern your use of our website, app, and community platform.
1. Acceptance of terms
By creating an account or using any part of the Hot Literati service, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
These terms are a binding legal agreement between you and Pulchritude Media, Inc. ("Hot Literati," "we," "us," or "our"), a company incorporated in the United States.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use Hot Literati. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Do not share your password. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at hello@hotliterati.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
4. Membership subscriptions
Hot Literati offers paid memberships billed monthly ($12.99/month) or annually ($99.99/year). Prices are in US dollars and subject to change with notice.
Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time through your account settings or by contacting us.
Payments are processed by Stripe for web purchases and by Apple or Google for in-app purchases. The respective platform's refund policy applies to purchases made through Apple or Google.
For web purchases processed by Stripe, we generally do not offer refunds once a billing period has begun, except where required by law. If you have a billing issue, contact us at hello@hotliterati.com and we will work with you to resolve it.
5. Event tickets
Hot Literati organizes some events directly, and also gives members the tools to organize and sell tickets to their own events -- see "Member-hosted events" below for how that works and whose responsibility it is.
For events organized directly by Hot Literati: ticket sales are final. We do not offer refunds unless we cancel the event, in which case you will receive a full refund to your original payment method.
For events organized by another member: the refund and cancellation policy is set by that member, not by us. Tickets are non-transferable unless the organizer indicates otherwise.
6. Member-hosted events
Hot Literati provides the technology -- listing pages, ticketing, and payment processing -- that lets members organize and sell tickets to their own in-person and virtual gatherings. We are a connector between people who want to host something and people who want to attend, not the organizer.
When another member creates an event, that member is the sole organizer. Hot Literati is not a party to the event, does not vet, supervise, staff, or insure it, and is not responsible for what happens there.
If you organize an event through Hot Literati, you are solely responsible for: the venue and any permits, licenses, or insurance it requires; complying with all applicable laws, including alcohol service laws if alcohol is served or available; the safety and conduct of your event and its attendees; and setting and honoring your own cancellation and refund policy, clearly stated on your event listing.
If you attend an event organized by another member, your relationship for that event -- including any dispute, refund request, or safety concern -- is with the organizer, not with Hot Literati.
Ticket payments for member-organized events are processed through Stripe. Hot Literati retains a platform fee (currently 15%) from each ticket sold; the organizer receives the remainder, generally paid out automatically to their connected bank account. Organizers are independent members using our platform, not employees, agents, contractors, or partners of Hot Literati, and are responsible for their own taxes on amounts they receive, including any tax forms Stripe issues directly to them.
We can remove an event listing or suspend a member's ability to create events at our discretion, including in response to member reports, but we are not obligated to review events before they go live.
7. Creator content and Worlds
Hot Literati lets members collect and share their own writing, art, and audio, and -- if they choose -- offer it for sale to other members through their own personal page (a member's "World"). If you sell content through Hot Literati, you are an independent creator using our platform, not an employee, agent, or partner of Hot Literati. You retain ownership of what you create and sell.
You are solely responsible for the content you offer for sale -- including that you own it or have the rights to sell it, that it does not infringe anyone else's rights, and that it complies with the conduct rules in the next section. Hot Literati does not review listings before they're published and is not responsible for the accuracy, quality, or legality of what another member sells.
Payments are processed through Stripe. Hot Literati retains a platform fee (currently 15%) from each sale; the creator receives the remainder, generally paid out automatically to their connected bank account. Creators are responsible for their own taxes on amounts they receive, including any tax forms Stripe issues directly to them.
Purchases of creator content are generally final. If you have an issue with something you purchased, we encourage reaching out to the creator directly first -- we may step in if a listing turns out to violate our policies, but disputes over a specific sale are between the buyer and the creator.
We can remove a listing, a World, or a member's ability to sell, at our discretion, including in response to member reports.
8. HL Academy courses
Course unlocks are purchases of a license to access course content. They are non-refundable once content has been accessed. Courses remain available in your library for the life of your account.
9. User conduct
You agree not to use Hot Literati to:
- Harass, threaten, or harm other users
- Post illegal, defamatory, or obscene content
- Impersonate another person or organization
- Spam or solicit other users
- Attempt to access accounts or systems without authorization
- Scrape or copy content from the platform without permission
- List an event or sell content you don't have the legal right to offer
- Misrepresent an event's safety, legality, or nature -- including serving or offering alcohol without the license or permission required where the event takes place
- Use Hot Literati's listing or payment tools for anything illegal
We reserve the right to remove content and event listings, and to suspend or terminate accounts, that violate these rules, at our sole discretion.
10. Your content
You retain ownership of content you create on Hot Literati, including blog posts, community messages, and annotations. Content you offer for sale through a World is additionally governed by "Creator content and Worlds" above.
By posting content on Hot Literati, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and promote that content as part of operating the service. This includes featuring your writing in the blog, newsletters, and social media.
You represent that you own or have the rights to any content you post, and that it does not infringe the rights of others.
11. Our content
All content created by Hot Literati, including reading guides, course materials, editorial columns, and platform design, is owned by Pulchritude Media, Inc. or licensed to us. You may not copy, redistribute, or sell our content without written permission.
12. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all liability for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.
We are not responsible for the loss of any content you create using Hot Literati, including writing drafts, chapters, notes, journal entries, or other content, whether caused by technical failure, service interruption, device or browser issues, account termination, or any other cause. While we take reasonable steps to save your work as you create it, we do not guarantee against data loss, and you are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything important to you.
Events and content offered by members other than Hot Literati are created, organized, and sold by those members, not by us -- we are the connector, not the organizer or the seller. We disclaim all liability arising from member-organized events and member-sold content, including any injury, loss, or dispute connected to them, to the fullest extent permitted by law. If you organize an event or sell content through Hot Literati, you agree to indemnify and hold Hot Literati harmless from any claim arising out of your event or your content.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice in the app at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
