New Mexico & Faith’s Paradox

It’s hard to imagine that missing a connecting flight and being stranded at midnight, 400 miles away from where you need to be, would lead to the most beautiful weekend of your life. But for me, that’s kind of how Faith consistently unfolds itself.

Two weeks ago, my brother and I had a performance in Farmington, New Mexico, and the energy surrounding that entire trip was beyond palpable. From flight delays/cancellations, to missing luggage, to a spontaneous 8hr drive from the airport to our hotel, there was an “obstacle” at every corner trying to prevent us from getting to our destination. All of the ingredients for failure & disappointment were on the table, and it definitelyyy felt like the bar tender of The Universe had already begun shaking their cocktail mixer. But in hindsight, that “shaking” is what got us moving in the first place.
Huge shoutout to my girlfriend for calmly reminding my brother and I that “everything will work out”. To me, that’s where the paradox comes in: “Faith doesn’t make things easy, it makes things possible” (She saw that on a billboard in NM while we were in the middle of yet another tribulation).

Negative emotions such as anger, grief, uncertainty, anguish…they all have the ability to make the present moment extremely (extremelyyy) uncomfortable. Whereas positive emotions can act as an indicator that you’re right where you’re supposed to be with no need to move at all. With Faith, it’s almost as if you’re inputting a certain positive emotion into your GPS, and using the negative emotions to know which Exits to take. If it wasn’t for uncertainty, my brother never would’ve reached the understanding of just how much his music has touched the hearts of many across the globe. So much so that two angels were willing to drive us 8 hours from Denver to New Mexico because they “absolutely had to be at the concert” (shoutout to Instagram Calls lol). If it wasn’t for anger, I never would’ve felt the vigor necessary for kicking out a bunch of (bloody) drunk assholes from the venue, then to hop on stage & perform right after. And if it wasn’t for disappointment, I wouldn’t have been able to feel the peace of spending an extra 16 hours with such an amazing Woman; catching Uber after Uber, seeing the insane Colorado mountains, and waiting for yet another flight after so many damn delays (DEN is a special place for sure….) In the end, just like she said, everything worked out exactly how it needed to.
I’ve always been a huge advocate for the idea that “Everything happens for a reason”, but if there’s always a reason, why should I feel negative about any situation ever?? I’d always find it frustrating that I was frustrated @ my frustration, the metacognition of it all. Whole time I was unknowingly confusing “Faith” with “Sunshine & Rainbows”. Life absolutely f**king sucks sometimes, but it’s 1000% completely necessary for the contrast. For the Illusion of Separateness in this physical world.
This trip helped truly reveal to me exactly how useful negative energy can be: Feel it, Acknowledge it, Alchemize it. And always remember, it’ll all work out in the end.
