We threw a Steinbeck Party

Hello Hot Literatis

I hope you all are well.

I have myself on a sort of work house arrest, locking myself away and making myself 1) write 2) build new Hot Literati features!

I'm aiming to get to 60k words and it's been such a grind haha! But I'm going to host a virtual writing sprint tomorrow for any members who want to join. Accountability always helps.

In August, we launched chapters in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and St. Louis, and of course we're still hanging out here in New York.

Our last New York event was a Steinbeck themed party and I'm not kidding when I say it is the most fun I've had in a very long time.

Marissa led the discussion as we talked about Steinbeck's idea of the American Dream and then we split into two groups to write little Steinbeck-themed skits.

Group one wrote an avant-garde piece about a girl who becomes an only fans model only to be targeted by her conservative neighbors.

Group two wrote a brilliant sketch about a dreamer who moved to New York to do short form street interviews, only to have his best one foiled by his camera man, who was obsessed with rats and missed the best interview to zoom in on a rat trailing by.

I laughed SO hard at both and had a really lovely time.

We've also shifted the platform a little now where you can list your own events and build your own community on Hot Literati!
