Who takes a cut, and how much

Every platform between you and a buyer charges for it. Know the toll on each road.

1. 1App stores take 15 to 30% of sales.
2. 2Marketplaces and payment processors take listing, sales and payment fees. Add them up per sale.
3. 3Streaming pays per stream, often a fraction of a cent, split with whoever owns the recording and the song.
4. 4A cut is worth it when the platform brings you buyers you couldn’t reach yourself.
