Steps and thirds

An interval is the distance between two notes. A half step is 1 fret, a whole step 2. A minor third is 3 half steps, a major third is 4.
Thirds are the heart of chords. The minor third sounds tender, the major third sounds bright.
From C on the A string: up 3 frets is E flat, a minor third. Up 4 is E, a major third.
