47th Street Theatre

The story

A firehouse designed by Napoleon LeBrun & Sons in 1888 is now one of Hell's Kitchen's most distinctive stages. Built for Fire Engine Company No. 54, the building sat abandoned until Miriam Colon revived it in the early 1970s as the home of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater. Forbidden Broadway ran here until closing its 27-year run on March 1, 2009. Since then the space has housed productions from The Glass Menagerie to Spamilton, a Hamilton parody that logged more than 500 performances before closing in 2018. It remains a New York City designated landmark.
