The story
A building donated in 2002 became three stages before most New Yorkers noticed it existed. Architect Leo Modrcin carved Theater A, B, and C out of 59 East 59th Street, and the complex opened in February 2004 with a production of The Stendhal Syndrome. Two months later, Theaters B and C debuted together through Brits Off Broadway, a festival premiering new work by British companies. Owned by the Elysabeth Kleinhans Theatrical Foundation, the not-for-profit complex holds off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway work under one Midtown roof.
