AMC Empire 25
The story
In 1998, an entire Broadway theater was picked up and moved 168 feet west down 42nd Street so a movie megaplex could use it as a lobby entrance. The building, originally the Eltinge Theatre, opened in 1912 and was named for Julian Eltinge, a female impersonator with whom impresario A. H. Woods was closely associated. Designed by Thomas W. Lamb, its terracotta facade centers on a three-story arch modeled after a Roman triumphal arch. Today AMC Empire 25 holds the record for the most screens of any theater in the United States.
