Bitforms gallery
The story
Bitforms gallery gave new media art a room of its own in New York before most institutions knew they needed one. Steven Sacks founded it in 2001, staking a claim for artists working critically with technology at a moment when that work was still finding its footing. For over a decade it lived in Chelsea, then in September 2014 moved to a ground-level storefront on Allen Street in the Lower East Side. It represents established, mid-career, and emerging artists alike — a span that keeps the conversation between generations alive.
