Bodley Gallery
The story
Andy Warhol showed some of his earliest New York work here, starting with two exhibitions in 1956. The Bodley Gallery ran from the late 1940s through the early 1980s, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Braun and directed during its heyday by David Mann. Max Ernst, Roberto Matta, Larry Rivers, and Mina Loy all passed through its rooms. The gallery emphasized living artists yet wasn't bound by that rule. For three decades it was quietly one of the places where modern art in New York got its first serious look.
