Broadhurst Theatre

The story

The Broadhurst Theatre is named for a man who never owned it. British-American producer George Broadhurst simply leased the space before it opened in 1917, and the name stuck. Herbert J. Krapp designed it for the Shubert brothers alongside the neighboring Schoenfeld Theatre, giving both a similarly restrained neoclassical face of buff-colored brick and terracotta. Inside, Doric columns and Greek friezes line an auditorium that seats 1,218 across two levels. Both the facade and the interior are now New York City landmarks.
