Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory
The story
Mark Thompson opened this ice cream shop in 2001, shortly after the September 11 attacks, inside a 1922 fireboat house on the Fulton Ferry Landing — the oldest ferry landing in Brooklyn. Firefighters once used the building for practice sessions; Thompson turned it into a scoop shop in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge. Displaced from that landmark location in 2019, the shop survived a stint in Greenpoint before reopening in March 2021 across the street from where it began, at 14 Old Fulton Street.
