Center for Book Arts
The story
The first organization of its kind in the United States was founded in 1974 by book artist and master bookbinder Richard Minsky, who believed the book itself could be art. That founding premise became a model — similar institutions spread across the country in CBA's wake. Today the Manhattan center runs over 100 classes in bookbinding, letterpress printing, paper marbling, and typography across 5,000 square feet, with a 900-square-foot gallery open to visitors. It remains one of the country's most prominent non-profits dedicated to the book arts.
