Dag Hammarskjöld Library
The story
A library tunneled into the architecture of global diplomacy, the Dag Hammarskjöld Library connects physically to the Secretariat and Conference buildings through corridors above and below ground. Founded in 1946, it moved into its current building in 1961 and was named for the UN's second secretary-general. It serves Secretariat staff and permanent mission members, holding the main depository of UN documents and publications. That underground thread — literal and archival — keeps the institution's memory accessible to the people still trying to use it.
