The story

Forbes once called Daniel the top-ranked restaurant in America, yet Michelin currently awards it just one star — a gap that says everything about how fiercely this room is argued over. Daniel Boulud, New York's longest-reigning four-star chef, moved his New French kitchen to 60 East 65th Street in early 1999, and within the same year it earned a AAA Five Diamond Award it has held ever since. Ghaya Oliveira has led the pastry program since 2013. The debates about its proper rank have never quieted, which may be the surest sign it still matters.
