David Zwirner Gallery
The story
David Zwirner launched one of the world's most expansive contemporary art galleries with a single one-man show of Austrian sculptor Franz West in a SoHo ground-floor space in 1993. From that Greene Street beginning, the gallery grew across Chelsea, the Upper East Side, London, Hong Kong, and Paris — its continental European debut arriving in the Marais in 2019. Architect Annabelle Selldorf has shaped several of its spaces, including a 1907 townhouse off Madison Avenue. Today the gallery operates across seven cities, with an offshoot exhibition space, 52 Walker, added in Tribeca in 2021.
