Di Fara Pizza
The story
For nearly six decades, one man made every single pizza himself. Domenico DeMarco emigrated from the Province of Caserta, Italy, in 1959 and opened Di Fara Pizza on Avenue J in Midwood, Brooklyn, in 1965. He ran it until his death in 2022. The New York Times called it one of the most acclaimed pizza shops in the city. Zagat gave it New York's top pizza rating in 2011. Frommer's named it the best hand-made pizza in New York City in 2013. Anthony Bourdain praised it. The corner of East 15th Street and Avenue J became, quietly, a pilgrimage site.
