Dorrian's Red Hand Restaurant
The story
An Irish immigrant named James "Red Dog" Dorrian opened this Second Avenue bar in 1960, and three generations of his family have run it since. What began as a neighborhood anchor for the Upper East Side's preppy teenagers and young professionals has never stopped being exactly that — chummy, clubby, unchanged in atmosphere. New York Yankees players drink here. Film crews keep coming back. Jack Dorrian's son Jimmy now holds the door, which means the place has outlasted trends by simply refusing to become one.
