Hallo Berlin
The story
A pushcart on 54th Street and Fifth Avenue beat every white-tablecloth contender: in 2004, New York magazine named Hallo Berlin one of the city's four best power lunches. The cart then won the Vendy Award in 2005, ranking first among all New York street food vendors. Rolf Babiel built the operation — a Hell's Kitchen beer garden on Tenth Avenue plus that famous cart — around frankfurters, spätzle, sauerkraut and wurst, with the motto 'New York's wurst restaurant.' After Babiel died in October 2009, his wife and sons carried it on until the restaurant closed in June 2017.
