Hudson Theatre
The story
The Hudson Theatre has two official addresses — 139–141 West 44th Street for its entrance, and 45th Street for the auditorium hidden behind it — a split identity that hints at how much the building holds. Built between 1902 and 1903, its exterior came from J. B. McElfatrick & Son and its interior from Israels & Harder, together producing Beaux-Arts Classical lobbies and a 970-seat house across three levels. Both exterior and interior are New York City landmarks. One of the oldest surviving Broadway venues, it remains a rare place where the architecture itself is the argument for preservation.
