Imperial Theatre
The story
The Imperial Theatre's main entrance is a lie of sorts: that elegant three-story white terracotta facade on 45th Street is merely a narrow lobby, while the actual house sits almost entirely around the corner on 46th Street, where a buff-brick wall once welcomed carriages. Herbert J. Krapp designed it for the Shubert brothers in 1923 to replace the outdated Lyric Theatre, and it opened on Christmas Day that same year. Today its Adam-style auditorium interior is a New York City landmark, still run by the organization that built it a century ago.
