The story
Cornell Capa founded this place to keep dead photographers alive. After losing his brother Robert Capa and colleagues Werner Bischof, Chim, and Dan Weiner in the 1950s, he built an institution around their humanitarian documentary work — what he called Concerned Photography. ICP opened in 1974 at Willard Straight House on Fifth Avenue's Museum Mile, and has since presented over 500 exhibitions featuring more than 3,000 photographers. Its Infinity Awards, launched in 1985, continue to honor careers and identify future luminaries in the field.
