James Cohan Gallery
The story
James Cohan's first exposure to art dealing came through his uncle Carl Solway, who ran an avant-garde gallery — a childhood introduction that eventually led Cohan across an Atlantic. After moving from Cleveland to New York in the 1980s, he spent over a decade directing the John Weber and Paula Cooper galleries before decamping to Anthony d'Offay in London for most of the 1990s. He and Jane co-founded the gallery in 1999 on West 57th Street. It now anchors two spaces on Walker Street in Tribeca, under the ownership of David Norr since 2026.
