John Golden Theatre
The story
The John Golden Theatre is clad in golden brick, terracotta, and stone in a Spanish style — an unlikely choice for a Broadway house on West 45th Street. Herbert J. Krapp designed it in 1927 for real-estate developer Irwin S. Chanin, and its rib-arched ceiling and twisting colonettes still feel closer to Seville than Midtown Manhattan. With only 800 seats across two levels and no box seats at all, it remains one of Broadway's more intimate houses. Both its facade and auditorium interior are designated New York City landmarks.
