Kings Theatre
The story
One of only five Loew's Wonder Theatres ever built, Kings Theatre opened on September 7, 1929, as a movie palace designed by Rapp and Rapp — its interior decor supervised alongside Harold Rambusch, its stage anchored by a Wonder Morton pipe organ from the Robert Morton Organ Company. The elaborate terracotta facade, arched entrance, and 3,250-seat auditorium with its decorated proscenium arch made Flatbush Avenue feel like a destination. Owned by the New York City Economic Development Corporation and operated by ATG Entertainment since 2015, it remains one of Brooklyn's most ornate live performance spaces.
