Loew's Jersey Theatre

The story

A sculpture of Saint George fighting a fire-breathing dragon guards the entrance. Designed by Rapp and Rapp, the Loew's Jersey opened on September 28, 1929, as one of five Loew's Wonder Theatres in the New York City area — a movie palace built for spectacle, with elaborate terracotta facades, a mechanical Seth Thomas clock, and a pipe organ manufactured by the Robert Morton Organ Company. Its auditorium seats at least 3,021 people across two lavishly decorated levels. Owned by Jersey City and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it has been operated by Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment since 2021.
