Lundy's Restaurant
The story
At its peak, Lundy's served a million patrons annually — a number that still startles. Irving Lundy founded the place on the Sheepshead Bay waterfront in 1926, but the original building was condemned five years later to make way for a bay redevelopment. The replacement, a Spanish Colonial Revival sprawl designed by Bloch & Hesse with red-tile roofs, leadlight windows, and decorative ironwork, opened in the mid-1930s and grew into one of the largest restaurants in the United States, seating up to 2,800 people. It was the last of the seafood houses that once lined the bay.
