The story

In 2003, Richard Linklater filmed the opening scene of School of Rock here, when the place was still called Northsix. It had opened just two years earlier, in the spring of 2001, as one of the first venues to bring indie rock and avant-garde concerts to Brooklyn — Manhattan had owned that world until then. The Village Voice named it Best New Rock Club in 2002. Now operated by The Bowery Presents and holding 650 people, it is planned to close its current location in 2026.
