Pershing Square Signature Center

The story

The Pershing Square Signature Center sits more than a mile west of the Manhattan square whose name it shares — both on 42nd Street, never quite meeting. The name came with a price: the Pershing Square Foundation donated $25 million, and Frank Gehry designed what followed. Announced in 2008 and opened in 2012, the complex folds three Off-Broadway theatres, two rehearsal studios, a café, a bookstore, and offices onto a single level inside a 43-floor apartment tower. It is the permanent home of Signature Theatre Company, with The New Group and Second Stage Theater among its regular presences.
