Richard Rodgers Theatre

The story

The rear of the orchestra sits a full story above ground — a consequence of the steep stadium seating Herbert J. Krapp engineered when he designed this neo-Renaissance house for Irwin Chanin in 1925. Its white brick and terracotta facade, divided between an auditorium wing and a seven-story stage house in buff brick, has been a landmark ever since, inside and out. With roughly 1,400 seats across two levels and the Nederlander Organization running the room, it remains one of Broadway's most distinctive working theaters.
