The story

The space was a plumbing school before it became one of the most important venues for loud music in the entire world — Kerrang.'s words, not hyperbole. Arty Shepherd, Justin Scurti, and George Souleidis opened Saint Vitus in Greenpoint in April 2011, hiring Matthew Maddy to design a heavy metal atmosphere for what they imagined would be mostly a bar with only occasional live shows. Pitchfork called it the best metal bar in New York City. The Department of Buildings permanently closed it in February 2024. By July 2026, it had announced a new life in Bushwick.
