Serendipity 3
The story
The name comes from a Persian fairy tale — The Three Princes of Serendip — and something of that enchantment stuck. Calvin L. Holt, Patch Caradine, and Stephen Bruce opened Serendipity 3 on East 60th Street in 1954, folding a boutique selling one-of-a-kind fashion and art objects into a restaurant where Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, and Jacqueline Kennedy became regulars. The 2001 romantic comedy Serendipity filmed here, borrowing the name outright. Today Selena Gomez holds an ownership stake, keeping the place tethered to the culture it has always quietly shaped.
