The story

A Netflix comedy special was filmed in this 850-seat university theater on LaGuardia Place, which tells you something about how NYU Skirball operates — serious but unpredictable. Completed in October 2003 at a cost of approximately $40 million and designed by Kevin Roche, John Dinkeloo and Associates, the theater was named for philanthropist Jack H. Skirball. It runs two curated seasons a year, mixing international artists like Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and Forced Entertainment with New York companies like The Wooster Group — a rare space where academic life and live performance genuinely talk to each other.
