Talwar Gallery
The story
Talwar Gallery opened in New York City in September 2001, just weeks after the city was changed forever. Founded by Deepak Talwar, it quietly became a bridge between the Indian subcontinent, its diaspora, and Western museum culture. In 2003 it mounted the first US solo show of Nasreen Mohamedi — also the first exhibition of her photographs anywhere outside India. Artists shown here have since entered major museum collections worldwide. A New Delhi location followed in 2007, anchoring the gallery on both sides of the world it set out to connect.
