The Bitter End
The story
Bob Dylan played pool here, watched performances, and occasionally took the stage circa 1961. Fred Weintraub opened The Bitter End that same year at 147 Bleecker Street, starting as a coffeehouse before folk hootenannies filled its Tuesday nights with performers who would become legends — Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Woody Allen, Billy Crystal among them. The club briefly renamed itself The Other End in 1975, then thought better of it. Now at 230 capacity, under new ownership, it holds its claim as New York's oldest rock club.
