Trygve Lie Gallery
The story
A gallery named for the first Secretary-General of the United Nations sits ten blocks north of UN headquarters, inside a Norwegian Seamen's Church with more than 130 years of history in New York City. Former Norwegian Ambassador Knut Vollebæk opened it on September 19, 2003, with a mission to bring Norwegian American culture and Scandinavian art to broad New York audiences. Beyond exhibitions and documentary projects, the space hosts recitals, conferences, and performances — a room that has quietly served sailors, diplomats, and artists across very different eras of the city.
