Woodward Gallery
The story
Woodward Gallery held its inaugural exhibition not in a gallery at all, but in Times Square at the Roundabout Theatre Company. That was April 1994, when John and Kristine Woodward incorporated under the name Gallery of Living Artists and set out to show emerging and established artists across movements as varied as surrealism, street art, and color field painting. The gallery moved through Lafayette Street and Broome Street before settling on Eldridge Street on the Lower East Side, where its public project space supported urban art murals for eight years.
