Host checklist

Before

• List your event from a format at hotliterati.com/host. Add the venue, date and price.
• Charging for tickets? Connect Stripe from your profile so payouts reach you.
• Confirm with the venue a week out: the time, the table or corner, and no rental fee.
• Share your event page. Post it, text it to five friends, and ask each to bring someone.
• The day before: open your guest list and print the format's run of show.
• Pack what the format needs: spare books, question cards, pens.

During

• Arrive 20 minutes early. Set up the table and put your phone on the guest list.
• Check people in as they arrive, in the Hot Literati app or at hotliterati.com on your phone (Your events, then Guests).
• Give the welcome, 30 seconds, about 15 minutes after doors.
• Follow the run of show, loosely. If people are talking, let them.
• Take photos: the table, the room, the books. Ask before you photograph faces.
• Before people leave, tell them when the next one is.

The 30-second welcome

“Hi everyone, I'm [your name], thanks for coming. This is a Hot Literati [format]: [one sentence on how tonight works]. Hot Literati is a community for people who read, write and make things, and tables like this one are how it meets in person. Founding membership is open until October 31: $12.99 a month, and that price stays for as long as you're a member. It's at hotliterati.com. Grab a drink, and let's start.”

After

• Upload your photos to the event in the Hot Literati app that night, while people are still thinking about it, and ask guests to add theirs.
• Write a short recap in the app: what you read or talked about, one line someone said. It shows on the event page.
• List the next date now, from the same format.
• Paid event: check your Stripe payout. You keep 95%.
